The telephone is an important device used everyday by people in America . The technology surrounding the phone seems to continue to amaze many and how rapidly the phone has evolved from 1876 when Alexander Graham Bell invented what he called the “harmonic telegraph”. Alexander Graham Bell wanted to make the telegraph better which had been the only source of communicating for over 30 years by the late 1800’s. Since the telegraph used a wire based electrical system, similar to the telephone, the invention kind of happened by accident. He patented the telephone which he originally called a harmonic telegraph in 1876 when realizing sound and voices can be carried over the wires instead of signals. With the invention of the telephone, the telegraph fell by the wayside because the phone was much better . Mr. Bell would be thrilled to see the continuing technology of his original invention still happening today.
